Climate activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk was arrested under National Security Act (NSA)- among India's most stringent preventive detention laws- after deadly violence in Ladakh. It empowers Centre and states to hold a person in custody for up to 12 months, with no provision to seek bail from courts. It has previously been invoked against separatists, gangsters, radical preachers, etc.
