Authorities in the German city of Cologne defused three unexploded World War II bombs on Wednesday after ordering the evacuation of more than 20,000 people. The American-made bombs prompted emergency officials to seal off a 1,000-meter (3,280-foot) radius in the heart of the city. Notably, Cologne was subjected to particularly heavy bombing during World War II.
