Uniform Civil Code (UCC) which came into effect in Uttarakhand will affect various aspects of people's lives. Marriage registrations must take place within 60 days of wedding. UCC prohibits polygamy, child marriage, nikah halala and triple talaq, except among tribals. Registration of live-in relationships is mandatory, while kids born out of such relationships will be considered legitimate.
