A million-year-old human skull found in China suggests that our species, Homo sapiens, began to emerge at least 400,000 years earlier than previously thought, and in Asia rather than Africa, scientists claim. The research also shows humans lived alongside other species, like Neanderthals, for longer than believed. The findings are based on reconstruction of a crushed skull found in 1990.
