Madras High Court has ruled that there is no legal right to conduct cockfights, as the law expressly prohibits animal fights organised by humans. The court noted that while cockfights are prevalent in Tamil Nadu, they cannot be granted cultural status. The remarks came after a petition by a man denied permission by District Collector to hold a knife-free cockfight.
