Pineapple pizza, also known as 'Hawaiian pizza', was created by Greek immigrant Sam Panopoulos at his restaurant in Canada in 1962. In a 2017 BBC interview, Panopoulos said that he and his brothers put the pineapple on the pizza "just for the fun of it". The name 'Hawaiian' came from the can of pineapples they used for the first pizza.
