US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said China has made a "real mistake" by threatening to shut off exports of rare-earth minerals, adding that it revealed China's readiness to "weaponise" materials vital to defence systems. Bessent highlighted that while the US and China had reached an "equilibrium", China can no longer rely on its dominance in critical minerals to coerce others.
