Kerala has declared snakebite envenomation a disease of “utmost public health importance”, according to an official notification. The government has taken the step to improve data collection, documentation, and coordinated response to rising fatalities from snakebites. The move follows Kerala High Court’s directive to make snakebite cases notifiable and develop more effective antivenoms.
