California has become the third US state to designate Diwali as a state holiday. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill co-authored by Assembly members Ash Kalra and Darshana Patel. The bill, which is set to go into effect on January 1, would authorise public schools and community colleges to close on the occasion of Diwali.
