Ronil Hira, an Indian-origin professor at US' Howard University, said labour regulations should be changed so that H-1 B visa programme doesn't depress wages and protect workers. "That it (H-1 B visa programme) is actually fulfilling its purpose, which is to fill genuine shortages instead of displacing Americans," Ronil added. Notably, US government has raised H-1 B fee to $100,000.
