Wadisuchus kassabi, an 80-million-year-old fossil found in Egypt's Western Desert, has been identified as the earliest ancestor of seagoing crocodiles. Unlike today's river-dwelling species, these Dyrosaurids were powerful swimmers that hunted in coastal waters. The findings push the timeline of dyrosaurid evolution back by nearly 10 million years and establish Egypt as their original birthplace.
