Saying that India "will have to become self-reliant", PM Narendra Modi on Saturday revealed that India pays nearly $75 billion or nearly ₹6 lakh crore to foreign shipping companies. "It's almost as much as India's defence budget," he said. He further added that had this amount been invested in building India's own shipping industry, we'd be earning the money.
