Spot silver jumped to a record high of $49.54 per ounce on Wednesday. This comes after spot gold crossed the $4,000 per ounce mark for the first time. The surge in the demand for precious metals is fuelled by the US government shutdown and increasing global tensions, including the Russia‑Ukraine war and unrest in the Middle East.
