Former England skipper Joe Root has become England's highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. During England's first innings in the ongoing Multan Test against Pakistan, Root overtook former England captain Sir Alastair Cook's tally of 12,472 runs. Root has also become the fifth-highest run-scorer in the history of Test cricket.
