Sleep fitness startup Eight Sleep introduced 'Backup Mode' to its smart bed days after users reported sleep disruption over Amazon Web Services outage. Backup Mode is an automatic fallback that lets Eight Sleep app speak directly to users' Pod over Bluetooth when cloud or Wi-Fi infrastructure is unavailable. When an outage is detected, Backup Mode lets users access critical functionalities.
