Researchers have discovered a new type of diabetes in babies under six months that is caused by mutations in the TMEM167A gene. This gene helps pancreatic beta cells make and release insulin, which regulates blood sugar level. Mutations in this gene were also associated with issues such as epilepsy and unusually small heads in babies.
