China expanded rare earths export controls, adding five new elements - holmium, erbium, thulium, europium and ytterbium, and extra scrutiny for semiconductor users. China produces over 90% of the world's processed rare earths and rare earth magnets. "This helps with increasing leverage for Beijing ahead of Trump-Xi [Jinping] summit in (South) Korea," said Tim Zhang, founder of Edge Research.
