Google has launched a new open protocol, named Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), to enhance the security of AI agent-led financial transactions. Over 60 merchants and financial institutions have backed the system, which is designed to work across different AI platforms, payment systems, and vendors. AP2 is designed for a potential future where AI agents regularly shop on behalf of customers.
