A 24-year-old student, Ujjwal Rana, from DAV PG Degree College in UP's Budhana, allegedly attempted self-immolation after being denied permission to take his exam over ₹7,000 in pending fees. He accused the principal of repeatedly humiliating him. Principal Pradeep Kumar Singh said, “He owns a mobile worth ₹25,000 and a motorcycle worth ₹1 lakh...How can he be considered poor?”
