Potato chips are believed to have been invented by George Crum while he was a cook at a restaurant in New York, according to Britannica. Crum apparently cut thin slices of potato after a customer sent back fried potatoes a few times over slices being too thick. Moreover, most chips usually have ridges or lines to distribute the seasoning evenly.
