The Kerala High Court ruled that a Muslim man can't register his second marriage under the Kerala Registration of Marriages (Common) Rules, 2008, without the first wife being informed and heard. If the first wife objects to the marriage, the registrar must refer the parties to a competent civil court. This only applies when the first marriage still exists.
