US plans 1:1 ratio of local to imported chips to cut imports: WSJ

The US is planning to introduce a new rule for semiconductor manufacturing to curb the country's reliance on imports, the WSJ reported. The rule would require chip companies to manufacture the same number of semiconductors in the US as their customers import from overseas producers. Companies that don't maintain a 1:1 ratio over time would have to pay a tariff.
