Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reacted to US President Donald Trump's claim that Chinese President Xi Jinping assured him he'd not invade Taiwan as long as Trump remained in office. Calling the Taiwan issue a "purely internal affair of China", Ning said, "How to resolve [it] is a matter for the Chinese people." China considers Taiwan its own territory.
