Why is Hindi Diwas celebrated on September 14?

The Constituent Assembly of India adopted Hindi (in the Devanagari script) as the official language of India under Article 343(1) of the Constitution on September 14, 1949. Hence, National Hindi Day/Hindi Diwas is celebrated on this day every year. It was first announced by the then PM Pt Jawaharlal Nehru in 1953. World Hindi Day is celebrated on January 10.
