How do engineers keep water out while building bridges over rivers?
short by Dharini Mudgal / on 22 Oct 2025,Wednesday
Primary method used to construct bridges over rivers is called ‘cofferdam’, a watertight structure, News18 reported. It creates dry working space by blocking off surrounding water, allowing the foundation to be safely laid. Steel sheet piles are driven into the riverbed. These sheets are interlocked to form a circular or rectangular watertight enclosure, creating a wall that keeps water out.
