Two-slab GST reforms came into effect on September 22. EY India's Tax Partner Saurabh Agarwal claimed that a common man earning ₹50,000/month and spending ₹25,000 on consumables will save around ₹1,275, which is "around 2.55% of his total disposable income on a monthly basis". This is because, of the total, consumables worth ₹15,000 will face GST rate cuts, he stated.
