A team of researchers has confirmed that the ancient people of Rapa Nui actually "walked" the giant moai statues, likely using a rope, through a combination of physics, 3D modelling and on-the-ground experiments. The study, published in Journal of Archaeological Science, found that stone statues were "walked" from their quarry to platforms in an upright zig-zag or rocking motion.
