The Union Finance Ministry has confirmed that no proposal is currently under its consideration to merge existing dearness allowance (DA) with basic pay in the upcoming Eighth Pay Commission. "In order to adjust cost of living...the rates of DA/dearness relief (DR) are revised periodically every six months on basis of retail inflation data for industrial workers," the ministry said.
