Crocodiles are often said to cry while eating their prey. This gave rise to the phrase "crocodile tears" used worldwide. Scientists explain that these tears are not emotional but physiological. Jaw movements during feeding put pressure on their tear glands, forcing fluid to appear around their eyes. When they leave water, tears help lubricate and clean eyes naturally, researchers stated.
