A rare total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027 will produce the longest period of darkness this century, with totality lasting up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds. The eclipse will begin over Atlantic Ocean before reaching land near Strait of Gibraltar. The path of totality will cross southern Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt and the Middle East.
