PAN is a ten-digit alphanumeric number issued. For example, there's this PAN Number ‘ABCDE1234F'. The first three letters signify alphabetic series from AAA to ZZZ, fourth character shows the holder type (P- individual, C- company, etc.). Fifth character is first letter of the holder's last name. Next four are numbers from 0001 to 9999. Last character tells alphabetic check digit.
