India saw the second most deaths in the world of children under the age of five in the year 2023, recording 1 lakh deaths, a study in The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health journal showed. Nigeria recorded the highest number of under-five deaths at 1,88,000, while the Democratic Republic of Congo ranked third with more than 50,000 deaths.
