Thousands of Syrians gathered on Saturday to mark 14 years since the civil war began, celebrating for the first time without ex-President Bashar al-Assad in power. People waved flags and cheered the rebel victory that ended Assad family's five decade rule in Damascus. Helicopters, once used for bombing, now dropped flowers as a message of peace from the new authorities.
