Australian government on Thursday passed anti-hate crime laws that impose minimum jail sentences of 12 months for less serious hate crimes, such as giving a Nazi salute in public. The laws impose six years imprisonment for those found guilty of terror offences. This comes after several antisemitic attacks on synagogues across country since the beginning of Israel-Gaza war in 2023.
