Twelve newlywed brides fled with jewellery and cash worth over ₹30 lakh on Karwa Chauth in Aligarh, UP. The women observed the ritual fast and later allegedly served food laced with intoxicants to their families. Once the families fell unconscious, they fled overnight with ornaments and large amounts of cash. Police said most of these marriages were arranged through brokers.
