A study has suggested that skin found on "mummies" of duck-billed Edmontosaurus dinosaurs from 66 million years ago discovered in the sandstone rocks of Wyoming's Lance Formation in 2000 and 2001 is not fossilised flesh. The study used X-rays, CT scans and microscopic and chemical analyses to find that skin was clay moulds welded by microbes as the creatures decayed.
