CJI BR Gavai called the Supreme Court "custodian of the Constitution" and asked whether it could "sit idle" if a constitutional authority, such as a Governor, failed to perform duties. The observation came as the court reserved its verdict on a Presidential reference regarding the timeline for granting assent to bills.
