The IMF returned to Washington without signing a staff-level agreement with Pakistan, putting $1 billion loan on hold, CNN-News18 reported. Islamabad's plea for "grace time" on reforms failed, with IMF flagging rising defence spending and $2-2.5 billion in unexplained outlays, the report said. Pakistan has $7 billion Extended Fund Facility from IMF, under which it received $2.1 billion in 2025.
