Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sterilised 24,504 cats in the last six years but struggles to match the pace of dog sterilisation. The cat sterilization and vaccination drive began in 2019 following rising cases of cat bites and scratches. Kaleem Pasha Pathan, General Manager of the Deonar Abattoir, said, "Mumbai is the only city in India carrying out cat sterilisation."
