Why did Russia sell Alaska to US?

Russian Czar Peter the Great had in 1720s expressed interest in Alaska and by 1790s "Russian-American Company" got monopoly to govern the area. However, US' Westwards expansion, Russia's multi-front war, its interest in expansion in East, supply shortages and competition in trade, enabled Russia's loss of interest in Alaska. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the US for $7.2 million.
