Author and activist Dilip Mandal has claimed that he created a fictional character Fatima Sheikh, adding that she is not a real person. Fatima Sheikh was believed to be a close aide of Savitribai Phule and the first Muslim teacher in India. "Do not ask why I did it. It was a matter of time and circumstance," he added.
