Over 42.4 lakh new demat accounts were opened in June, marking the highest account opening rate since February. With this, the total number of demat accounts crossed the 16 crore mark, Moneycontrol reported, citing data from the Central Depository Services and National Securities Depository. About 36 lakh new demat accounts were opened in May.
