Physicists in Vienna have recreated an optical illusion predicted by Einstein's theory of relativity. They mimicked objects moving at up to 99.9% of light speed, using ultra-fast laser pulses and cameras. Instead of appearing squashed, the objects looked rotated, confirming the Terrell-Penrose effect in the lab for the first time, as reported in Communications Physics.
