Chandan Verma, accused of killing a teacher, his wife and two minor daughters in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi, was in an illicit relationship with the teacher's wife, police officials said. Chandan told police they had an 18-month relationship and it had gone sour later, leading him to kill the family. Chandan also tried to die by suicide by shooting himself.
