A study by Ladakh's Department of Wildlife Protection estimates that the UT is home to 477 snow leopards, nearly 70% of India's species population. Ladakh has one of the world's highest densities, with these animals occupying over 47,500 sq km, the study added. It has happened due to the economic benefits of snow leopard tourism and effective conflict management strategies.
