This year, Dev Deepawali will be celebrated on November 5. On this night, it's said that deities descend from heaven to the ghats of Varanasi to celebrate Lord Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura. Dev Deepawali rituals take place mostly outdoors, on ghats, streets, and temples of Varanasi. The main tradition is Deepdan, the offering of oil lamps to Ganga.
