Short-finned pilot whales off Hawaii coast have been found to consume hundreds of squid daily, an amount far more than scientists anticipated. They used suction-cup tags, onboard cameras, hydrophones and drone measurements to record their motion, clicks and feeding events. The data showed the whales capture 82 to 202 squid daily, often plunging hundreds of metres in repeated foraging cycles.
