The Uttar Pradesh government has submitted an application before the Surajpur court to withdraw charges against all 15 accused in the 2015 mob lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq, according to Additional District Government Counsel Bhag Singh Bhati. He said the accused facing trial are currently out on bail. Akhlaq was lynched by a mob over an allegation of cow slaughter.
