The stampede at Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh, which killed at least nine people, occurred during "an extraordinary rush" of around 25,000 for Ekadashi at the temple, officials said. Railings and barricades erected to control crowd movement gave way due to overcrowding. The same point for entry and exit of devotees caused chaos and sparked panic, triggering stampede, reports said.
