Researchers have discovered Physalia mikazuki, a previously unknown species of venomous Physalia (Portuguese man-of-war), in Japan's northeastern waters for the first time. The species was named so in honour of Sendai's feudal lord, Date Masamune, a samurai warrior whose helmet featured crescent moon. Ocean simulations indicated that it arrived in northern waters through warm ocean currents.
